Dancers are instruments, like a piano the choreographer plays.
— George Balanchine

I began performing at my Georgia hometown theater at the ripe old age of six. As I got older, I felt I wasn't being offered enough opportunities in theater, so I created them myself. I co-founded Community Entertainment, a local theatre company, and used it to hone my skills as a director and choreographer. I directed several musicals over the next few years, including Sleeping Beauty and Rodger’s and Hammerstein’s classic Cinderella, and directed and choreographed two musical revues, Back to the 80's and Disco Inferno.

I went to college to study the art. I performed in several shows such as Sweet Charity, Damn Yankees, Hairspray, Carousel  Romeo and Juliet, and many more. I decided to follow my gut and move to NYC in January of 2012. Upon arrival, I worked with The York Theatre Company where I assistant directed and choreographed the Off-Broadway shows, Roadside, which was written by Tom Jones (110 in the Shade, The Fantastics) and Silk Stockings. Not long after I assisted writer/director, Stuart Ross (Forever Plaid) with his musical Radiant Baby: Story of Keith Haring. I then took a year hiatus to learn about the Broadway world working for Nederlander Producing Company to learn the biz.

In 2016, we finished production on our first project Here We Go Again, a short dance film that explores love and intimacy between couples in New York City. This film inaugurated my company, NCo Dance, which has now evolved into NCo Creations. NCo Creations is dedicated to voicing contemporary issues using classical styles of movement while integrating music, film, and theatre. Energy is contagious. Energy creates rhythm and rhythm is movement. When I'm emotional, I move. The issue is then conceived, journeyed, and executed. That's what NCo provides to our audience.

I’m currently a performing arts educator teaching theatre and dance West Los Angeles. When not teaching, I’m eating sweets and playing with my dog Finn. I'm also terrified of clowns, but it’s only because they're weird.

Much love and keep dancing,

Nathan Cohen
Founder/Artistic Director
